It’s a tough time in the world.

The COVID-19 virus, often referred to as the coronavirus, has deeply impacted the world and many workplaces are being shut down because of this.

One of these many workplaces is the pitch.

Many professional sporting leagues and events around the world are being suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak. One of these leagues include the Canadian Premier League, home of goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos.

Giantsopoulos, a true optimist, is doing his best to keep a positive outlook on the situation.

“Here at Cavalry we have a motto, adapt and overcome,” said Giantsopoulos.

Currently playing for Cavalry FC, the club has made efforts to adapt to this situation to keep Giantsopoulos and his team in shape throughout these unfortunate times.

“The club has sent us at home exercises to do and we’re all trying our best to keep fit and stay in shape,” said the 25-year-old.

Cavalry FC, who were the runners up to Forge FC last season, have created an unbreakable bond that cannot be stopped, even in the toughest of times.

Giantsopoulos talked about this, “I talk to the guys every day, whether that may be on facetime or in the group chat. We’ve all managed to stay in high spirits. We all know we will come back stronger from this.”

When the CPL announced it would delay the start of its second season in history, not many players were surprised. After all, this was already happening all around the world.

Now, it’s a waiting game to see when they can get back on the pitch for Giantsopoulos and the rest of the league.

“We’re kind of in the dark. We are currently in the middle of our 14-day isolation and once those two weeks are done I hope we will get some more news (about the CPL season). Obviously, I want the season to start, that’s my job and that’s what I love to do. But, if we have to delay the season to make sure everyone is healthy then we will go ahead and do that,” Giantsopoulos stated.

The goalkeeper would also talk about how the team is sending positive messages out of the community and nobody is alone during this tough time in the world.

For now, it’s all about adapting and overcoming Giantsopoulos and Cavalry FC.

On a side note, we hope everybody stays safe and healthy throughout this time!
