OPSM Prospect Mackenzie Roach signs in Australia

Written By Will Boehmer

OPSM is excited to announce that Pro Prospect Mackenzie Roach has signed with Australian-based club Corio SC.

Roach, a Niagara University alum, has been a part of the OPSM family since the Spring of 2020 as a professional prospect and is excited to showcase his talents this coming season in Australia.

“OPSM has been such a good resource for me over the last two years,” said Roach. “They provided a tremendous amount of reassurance for me when things were looking dull during the pandemic and were always pushing me to be training at a high level. They knew that I needed to stay ready for whenever the right opportunity came about, and now that it here I could not be more excited.”

Mackenzie has established a respectable resume throughout his young career leading NCAA Division 1 side Niagara University in goals and assists in 2016, while also playing for top NPSL team FC Buffalo during his collegiate off-seasons and the likes FC Darby, Kingston Clippers, and Oakville Blue Devils in the Ontario League 1 League.

“Growing up in Marysville Ontario, there wasn’t a lot of local clubs around me so since the age of twelve my parents would drive me two hours into Ottawa for my practices and games. It was a big-time commitment that I am still grateful for that today.”

Mackenzie Roach played 4 years with NCAA Div.1 School, Niagara University

“The academy I played for in Ottawa provided me lots of experience playing with top competition. Guys that I played with there are scattered throughout professional leagues in North America and Europe but some of them, like me decide to go the NCAA or USports route.”

“The last two years with OPSM Mackenzie has developed a lot,” said OPSM’s Head Trainer Ibby Soukary. “His skill set is very unique and in high demand but there is always room for improvement and he has been working hard on his game with us for some time now, so we are excited for this opportunity for him.”

“I’d describe myself as quick on the outside and capable of creating. Definity an attacking-minded player, I love to get around the box and score and create for others,” said Mackenzie.

“OPSM has been awesome for me over the last two years, between providing me a place to consistently train and improve in Ottawa, and giving me the backing I needed to keep my spirits high during the COVID shutdowns, I can’t thank them enough.”

As we celebrate Mackenize taking this next step, we are all acutely aware that his work has just begun. Corio SC will be looking to have another strong season in the Victorian State League 1 – a subsection of the National Premier League Australia.

Mackenzie will be expected to contribute right away, and OPSM knows he is up to the task.
