As the Brisbane Roar FC Women prepare for the second leg of the semi-finals in the A-League Women, defender Ashlyn Miller reflects on a season that has reshaped her career and her love for the game.
“This season has been memorable in many ways,” Miller said. “Not only because it is my first season playing overseas, but also because this is my first season as a professional athlete. I’ve embraced the challenges and found a new love for the game.”

Off the field, Miller has embraced life in Brisbane with a routine that balances early mornings and exploration. “Our trainings usually have me waking up at 5 a.m., so sleeping in is rare,” she said. “My ideal morning is making breakfast at home usually a yogurt bowl or eggs and toast then exploring coffee shops and new areas. I love photography, so I try to capture as much as I can.”
Moving across the world to begin her professional career came with obstacles, especially the distance from home. “The biggest challenges have been the distance from home and the difficulty talking with friends and family,” she said. “The time difference in Australia has added an element of difficulty, but it has also helped me grow a lot individually.”
Despite those challenges, the season has delivered unforgettable milestones including her first professional goal.“Scoring my first professional goal was one of the best feelings,” Miller said. “I’ve loved contributing to the team’s success as we’ve set club records and continue pushing for more.”
As the team pushes deeper into the playoffs, Miller says the squad’s resilience has been key.“I feel our team has grown tremendously both on and off the field,” she said. “We’ve overcome injuries, roster changes, and a demanding schedule. I’m incredibly honored to be a part of this story.”
Looking ahead to the decisive semi-final stage, Miller remains focused on continuing the journey.“I’m looking forward to continuing our season into the playoffs as we keep setting records that haven’t been accomplished yet,” she said.
Adapting to the A-League Women has also elevated her perspective on the game.“The biggest difference here is the quality and diversity of players,” Miller said. “Being exposed to different playing styles from around the world has expanded my knowledge of the game and increased my appreciation for the opportunity I have earned.” With momentum building and the semi-final second leg looming, Miller’s first professional season has already delivered growth, milestones, and belief … and she isn’t done yet.
